Vanity Fair has just released their Hollywood issue with a 3-page editorial featuring actresses du jour, Paula Patton and  Nigerian-Adepero Oduye. Patton stars in Mission Impossible 4 and Oduye stars in Pariah which also features Kim Wayans.

 Adepero Oduye

Adepero Oduye hails from Brooklyn, New York City by way of Nigeria. She is a graduate of Cornell University; and has studied acting with Wynn Handman, Austin Pendleton, and Susan Batson. Her name is pronounced "Add-eh-pair-o Oh-due-yay."

Her theatre credits include Danai Gurira's play Eclipsed, at the Yale Repertory Theatre; The Bluest Eye, at the Hartford Stage and Long Wharf Theatres; and Fela!, in the AEA workshop, directed and choreographed by Bill T. Jones.

Ms. Oduye first starred for writer/director Dee Rees as Alike in the award-winning short film Pariah. Among the other shorts that she has starred in are Gabriele Zamparini's Water; Russell Costanzo's The Tested; and Nadiah Hamzah's Sub Rosa.

She has made guest appearances on such television programs as Louie and two Law & Order series.

As both a Brit and a Royal, the Duchess of Cambridge has more opportunities than most to wear hats. And most would agree that she wears them very well. So it comes as little surprise that The Headwear Association has named her its 'Hat Person of the Year'.
Ninety-one per cent of the California-based organisation's members voted for her in an online poll, placing her ahead of U.S. celebrities Rachel Zoe and Ne-Yo.

She has raised the profile, not only of established names like Philip Treacy and Sylvia Fletcher of Lock & Co, but also little-known designers such as Rose Cory and Vivien Sheriff.
And though the engagements for which she chooses to wear hats are not unusual - church services, weddings and Royal Ascot - her sartorial influence has inspired many people to sport formal headwear for all manner of special occasions.

The style set in the U.S. has perhaps been most heavily-inspired. While British women, like Catherine, expect to wear hats from time to time, it was, for a long time, seen as outdated in America. Now though, milliners are enjoying a boom thanks to 'the Kate effect'. Jenny Pfanenstiel, of Forme Millinery in Chicago said: 'Kate has allowed American women to know what fascinators are and to feel more comfortable and confident about wearing hats in public.' A post on The Headwear Association's blog, announcing the news today, described Catherine's style as 'impeccable',

The Headwear Association was founded in 1908 and claims to be the oldest fashion trade association in the industry.

Its mission is to promote hat wearing and the headwear industry throughout the world and foster goodwill and fellowship among those engaged in the headwear industry.

This is the third annual Hat Person of the Year award: previous winners include Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt.

Earlier this year, it inducted Victoria Beckham and Lady Gaga into its Hall of Fame. They joined the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Aretha Franklin, Fred Astaire and Marlene Dietrich.

It used to be the case that you couldn't really call yourself a celebrity until you had your own fragrance. Now stars are aiming higher - with whole collections of footwear.
Cheryl Cole recently launched a collection on Stylistpick.com, following in the footsteps of everyone from Natalie Portman to Jay-Z. And Halle Berry - who already has her own fragrance - is now throwing her own line of sandals into the mix. The '5ths Avenue by Halle Berry' collection, designed for German retailer Deichmann Shoes, comes six months after Cindy Crawford posed with her own range of Deichmann heals.

The launch of the collection must be a welcome distraction for the actress who was interviewed by the Los Angeles Police Department yesterday over claims her ex-boyfriend pushed their daughter's nanny during an argument.
Like Crawford, Berry is 45 - and the shoot shows off her enviably toned legs as she slips on her new shoes.
The film star's spring/summer range of 40 limited edition shoes will boast peep toes with wedge heels, high-heeled sandals with straps and high-heeled sling sandals on wedge heels.

Berry said it was a 'dream come true' to have her own collection.
She said: 'Women have always loved shoes. It's like if your hair is not right and your shoes are not right, the woman is not right.
'If both of them are right, you're pretty much OK.
'And shoes are a statement. They can be very sexy; they can say something about where you are in the day; they can say what your mood is; they give you a chance to accessorize.
'And I'm a girl that loves to change my shoes all the time. It's an expression of who you are really. I'm a girl if I find a shoe that I really like I like to get them in all colours. I'm big on that.
'I would say I'm a nude girl because this goes with everything. You can dress it up and dress it down.
'I can't think of any girl who wouldn't want her name on a brand of shoes. I think that's pretty cool.


In her Deichmann commercial, Berry gets so caught up in the shoes and changes of outfit in her dressing room that she is late on a film set. She said of the ad: 'I like the concept of it. It really relates to my life and who I am as a person and what I do for a living. 'And I think there's kind of a fun element to it. And it also speaks to my love of shoes.'

Don’t get us wrong–we love us some neon thongs–but the lacy underthings in their designer collection is stuff we could see actual, grown women we know wearing.
But the grown-up sensibility also comes with a grown-up price tag: Bras retail from $98 to $158; undies and garter belts are $38 to $68 and baby dolls and teddies are $158 to $218. The collection will replace the brand’s decade-old strategy of carrying high-end brands like Chantelle Thomas in their stores. “We took it in-house because we have a design team that has such a passion for lingerie, and they differentiate Victoria’s Secret from any other brand,” Ed Razek, president and chief marketing officer of Victoria’s Secret, We think passion is a fitting descriptor here

Rutgers University is currently offering a course called "Politicizing Beyoncé." Kevin Allred, a post-doc in the department of Women's and Gender studies, explains that he uses the singer's music, on-stage persona and personal life to examine race, gender and politics in Amerca. "She certainly pushes boundaries," Allred explained on the Rutgers news site. "While other artists are simply releasing music, she's creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona."
